On November 5, Pakistani Ambassador to China Moin Ul Haque visited Fudan University. President Xu Ningsheng met with Moin Ul Haque’s delegation.
President Xu Ningsheng extended his welcome to Moin Ul Haque. He said, as the 4th China International Import Expo commenced recently, China stated that it would further expand imports and promote balanced trade. The development of infrastructure and industry are important drivers of national economic growth. The Belt and Road Initiative initiated by China helps countries in need of financial support to greatly upgrade their infrastructure and industry capability through investment. As an important pillar of the Belt and Road Initiative, the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has promoted multi-dimensional cooperation between China and Pakistan. Fudan University attaches great importance to promoting educational exchanges and scientific and technological cooperation with Pakistan. Over the years, leaders and scholars of Fudan University have played an active part in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Consortium of Universities. Huashan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University has visited Gwadar Port of Pakistan multiple times to provide medical aid for the locals. Pakistani students can also be found on Fudan campuses as well. The long-term development of China’s high technology cannot be achieved without further investment in education. Fudan University is willing to deepen cooperation with Pakistan in disciplinary construction and cultural exchanges.
Moin Ul Haq said that Pakistan and China boast a long history of friendship and are a good example of friendly relations between countries. The history of China-Pakistan friendly exchanges shows that our bilateral relations have withstood the test of international vicissitudes. As this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan, China-Pakistan relations are embracing new opportunities for development. The two countries have carried out all-round cooperation. Despite the impact of the pandemic, the trade between China and Pakistan has continued with a steady rise. China is the largest investor in Pakistan and he hopes that the bilateral trade can hit new highs in the future. He said, the research carried out by the Center for Pakistan Studies at Fudan University is of vital importance, and he looks forward to more high-quality development projects between the two sides. Pakistan not only needs better infrastructure, but also stronger technology, and he hopes that through bilateral efforts, Pakistan’s top universities and Fudan University could promote student exchanges in areas such as medicine. In recent years, China has been witnessing a rapid growth in the number of Pakistani students studying China. He hopes that there will be more of them coming to Fudan University.
Consul General of Pakistan in Shanghai Hussain Haider and Vice President of Fudan University Prof. Chen Zhimin also attended the meeting. After the meeting, Moin Ul Haq and his delegation had a roundtable discussion with Fudan scholars including Director of China Institute Zhang Weiwei, Director of the Center for Pakistan Studies of Institute of International Studies Du Youkang, Associate Professor of the Center for Pakistan Studies of Institute of International Studies Zhang Jiegen, and Associate Professor of the Institute of Belt and Road & Global Governance Zhang Yifeng.
