Fudan University signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with the Macao SAR government to deepen the exchanges and cooperation between Fudan University and Macao SAR and join efforts to build the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into an innovation hub on October 19.
Witnessed by Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Government Ho Iat-seng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Ao Ieong U, Chair of Fudan University Council Jiao Yang and President of Fudan University Xu Ningsheng, Director of Macau Education and Youth Development Bureau Lou Pak Sang and Vice President of Fudan University Chen Zhimin signed the agreement online.

In his speech, Ho Iat-seng said that in recent years, exchanges and cooperation between Shanghai and Macao have become increasingly frequent, and fruitful results have been achieved in such fields as finance, exhibition, culture, tourism and youth exchanges. At the first meeting of the Shanghai-Macao Cooperation Conference held last June, the two governments decided to collaborate on 35 projects, including student and faculty exchange programs and microelectronics research projects in partnership with Fudan University.
This year marks the first year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan. It is also an important year for Macao to further integrate itself into the country’s overall development plan. As one of China’s top and world-renowned comprehensive universities, Fudan University has made contributions to the country with its education and research capabilities, and meanwhile, it has kept a close relationship with Macao and has produced many talents for Macao’s development.
He hoped that in the new stage, through in-depth cooperation with Fudan University, the two sides could drive scientific innovation and industrial application of research achievements, foster more talents for Macao’s development, promote diversified development of Macao’s economy and contribute to Macao’s long-term prosperity and stability. The Macao SAR government will join hands with Fudan University for win-win cooperation and national rejuvenation.
Xu said that Ho’s visit to Fudan University last June shows that the Macao SAR government attaches high importance to Fudan University, which is a milestone in the cooperation and exchange between Macao and Fudan University. Multiple meetings on cooperation framework have been held in Fudan University.
He pointed out that the signing of the strategic cooperation framework agreement marks a new stage of exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. He believes with joint efforts, Macao will make even more contribution to the country’s development. Fudan university will forge ahead, together with universities in Macao to build world-class universities with Chinese characteristics.
Jiao Yang said, the signing of the agreement is a milestone and a new starting point for the cooperation between Fudan and Macao. She said, as Fudan University has advantages in fields of biomedicine and health, Macao and Fudan can draw on each other’s strengths to advance cooperation in areas of common interest.
Fudan University is committed to fostering talents able to take on the responsibility of national rejuvenation as well as aligning itself with national strategies and serving regional socioeconomic development. Fudan will earnestly fulfill the agreement and make practical contributions to the prosperity and development of Macao.
According to the agreement, Fudan University and the Macao SAR will consolidate the foundation of cooperation and complement each other in the areas of health, socioeconomic development, cultural exchanges, etc. In line with the principle of win-win cooperation and common development, the two parties will promote exchanges of medical professionals and in-depth cooperation in the fields of integrated circuits, artificial intelligence, finance/economy and public health, carry out collaborations in scientific innovation and the transformation of research achievements for practical use, and further leverage the advantages of both parties in funding, disciplines, personnel, technology and other resources to help transform the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into an innovation hub.
