Delegation from University of Alcalá visits Fudan

On Dec. 5, Vice President of University of Alcalá Prof. Julio Canero and Director of the Office of the International Partnerships Prof. Ignacio Bravo visited Fudan.


Founded in 1499, University of Alcalá has long been reputed for its tremendous contribution to fields such as communications, arts and Spanish language and culture. Now, it has 40 disciplines, covering humanities, sciences, medicine and engineering. Alcalá is also known as the hometown of Spanish writer Cervantes.


Prof. Chen Zhimin, Vice President of Fudan University welcomed the delegation and briefly introduced the development of Fudan’s Spanish teaching as well as the cooperation with universities in Latin America.


Canero introduced University of Alcalá’s academic strength in Latin American studies. With two-thirds of its international students coming from Latin America, Alcalá offers various master and doctoral programs on governance, leadership and education to cultivate talents for the region.


Both parties agreed that there would be much room for academic cooperation based on the similarities of the two universities in various domains, and promised to promote student and faculty exchanges as a first step. The possibility of a joint master program incorporating Spanish language and area studies was also discussed. University of Alcalá will also encourage more students to learn Chinese and study in China.


Representatives from the Department of Spanish Language and Literature and the Office of Global Partnerships also attended the meeting.
