Dr. Rong Wang received Asian Young Aerosol Scientist Award(AYASA)

By

On May 30, the Asian Aerosol Research Assembly (AAAR) announced that Prof. Rong Wang from Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Fudan University and Dr. Akiko Nakamura from Nagasaki University in Japan share the 2019 Asian Young Aerosol Scientist Award (AYASA). Prof. Chuen-Jinn Tsai, Chairman of the Asian Aerosol Research Association, presented the award to Prof. Rong Wang at the Asian Aerosol Conference 2019 to recognize his outstanding contribution to the global modeling of aerosol and air pollution. Tsai commented, “the selection committee were deeply impressed by the great achievements and quality of Rong’s work on aerosol modeling, which has substantially upgraded our understanding of interactions between aerosol and the climate system”.

The Asian Aerosol Research Assembly is composed of the Society of Aerosols and Clean Air Research in China, Japan, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, etc. Asian Young Aerosol Scientist Award, established in 2003,announces awardsevery other year to 1-2 outstanding young scholars under the age of 40 who have made outstanding contributions to aerosol science and technology. From 2005 to 2019, there have been 16 young scholars receivingthis award, and Dr. Rong Wang is the fifth scholar in China mainland and the first in East China to win the award. The Asian Aerosol Conference, held every other year, is organized by City University of Hong Kong, and more than 600 scientists from Asia, the United States and Europe attended the conference in 2019.

Dr. Rong Wang has been widely engaged in the study of modeling aerosol (air particulate matter), atmospheric chemistry and climate change. Dr. Rong Wang has performed high-quality original work in numerical simulations of air particulate pollution, global emission inventories, atmospheric transport of pollutants, and climate change, with more than 70 publications. As the first and corresponding author, Dr. Rong Wang has published in high-profile journals including Joule, Nature Geoscience, PNAS, JGR, EST, GRL, ACP, etc. In addition to AYASA, Dr. Rong Wang has been awarded Marie Curie Fellowship of European Union (2015), Springer Outstanding PhD Research (2015), and Young Scholar Award of Ministry of Education Academic (2012). Dr. Rong Wang has joined Department of Environmental Science and Engineering of Fudan University as a full-time professor since January 2018.
